Tshering Yangdon is an experienced medical laboratory scientist specialising in transfusion medicine, hematology, and laboratory quality systems. She has over 12 years of clinical and leadership experience, including her recent role as Deputy Chief Laboratory Officer at Paro Hospital, Bhutan, and Blood Bank In-Charge at the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH), the country’s premier tertiary care centre.

Her professional expertise includes immunohematology, blood donor services, hemovigilance, and diagnostic laboratory testing using auto-analysers in biochemistry and hematology. She has led national-level initiatives in blood safety, conducted external quality assessments, and supported capacity-building for district-based blood banks through technical guidance and training.

Tshering’s research contributions focus on blood transfusion safety, unexpected antibodies, blood utilisation, and medical waste management. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Global Journal of Transfusion Medicine, Journal of Medical Science and Clinical Research, and PLOS ONE. She completed her Master of Science in Medical Technology from Mahidol University, Thailand, where her thesis explored optimised cryopreservation of red blood cells. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Sri Ramachandra University, India, where she bagged the ‘Vice Chancellor Gold Medal’ for the Best Student in Allied Health Science. Tshering has participated in regional and international workshops on laboratory quality systems, blood donor management, and transfusion safety, including programs organised in Australia, Nepal, and India. She currently works at the New South Wales Pathology, Australia, and continues to pursue academic and professional engagement in laboratory science and public health.
