Dr. Phuntsho Wangdi

Phuntsho Wangdi graduated with a Doctoral Degree in Public Policy from Chiang Mai University in Thailand. He also studied a Master of Education from the Royal University of Bhutan, a Master of Public Administration from the National University of Singapore and a Master of Education Studies from the University of Canberra. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Honours from the University of Delhi, India and completed his Post Graduate certificate in Education from the National Institute of Education in Bhutan.

He worked in the Ministry of Education under the Royal Government of Bhutan as a teacher, principal, district education administrator, chief of educational programs and project manager for education reforms. He was the lead consultant for notable educational reformation initiatives like the nationwide transformative pedagogy training, the first national school curriculum conference, immersion programmes and the introduction of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) in Bhutan. He was also one of the founding members of Rover Scouts in Bhutan through a collaborative project with the Bhutan-Denmark Scouts.

Additionally, his professional experiences span as an education policy maker in Bhutan; a researcher at the University of New South Wales, Canberra; a consultant for e-deo Asia in Singapore; Founder of the EduPlus Training Institute, and Co-Founder of Charo Wongdo (Eldercare in Bhutan). He is a recipient of the Chang Yung Fa Foundation Scholarship for his MPA, the Presidential Scholarship for his PhD and the Bhutan Civil Service Award. Currently, he works as an Education Consultant in Canberra and is the Founder and Deputy Chief Editor of Bhutan Insights Journal. His research interests include education policy and practice, education planning and management, public policy and administration, and Gross National Happiness. He spearheaded the development of the Bhutan Education Blueprint, Operational Guidelines for Central Schools, Autonomous Schools and Private Schools in Bhutan, along with over 20 journal articles and conference paper publications.
