Chimi Om

Chimi Om is a PhD candidate in Computer Science at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia, specialising in human-computer interaction, early childhood education, and environmental sustainability. Her doctoral research focuses on co-designing tangible technologies to enhance young children’s engagement with nature and support meaningful environmental learning. She holds a Master of Philosophy in Computer Science from QUT and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the Royal University of Bhutan.

With a strong academic and research profile, Chimi has published multiple peer-reviewed papers in leading international conferences and journals, particularly in the fields of interaction design and children’s digital learning. She also contributes actively to the academic community as a reviewer for top-tier conferences and journals, and as a sessional academic at QUT, where she teaches subjects related to artificial intelligence, computer systems, and computational thinking.

Prior to her academic career, Chimi gained extensive industry experience as a CBS Engineer at Tashi InfoComm Limited in Bhutan, where she led system development, integration, and stakeholder coordination for telecom billing systems. She combines this technical expertise with a strong commitment to community engagement, having served in leadership roles within the Bhutanese community in Brisbane. Her work reflects a unique blend of research excellence, teaching capability, industry experience, and a passion for leveraging technology for social and environmental impact.
